CBSM Mission to Mexico 2002

Day Ten: July 10th, 2002

Day Ten: He is An Awesome God!

Up at 4:30... Breakfast, load the pickup trucks and off to the work sites.
Team One finished putting up the chicken wire for the stucco, finished the roof, and started the stucco of the exterior walls, while a team started on the long task of the interior drywall installation.
Bruce worked on the electrical wiring and testing of it. The day morning went relatively well, and Team One went went back to the church after completing the stucco. They took a short rest after lunch and then they went to a store called Sorannas', which is much like a WalMart to get gifts for the family that will receive the house. Silverware, pots, a small tool kit, color markers, paper , and of course, a soccer ball were among the gifts. T1 then returned to the site and finished everything but the drywall. T1 had hoped to finish by 6pm and then have the dedication of the house and help the family move from their shack into their new house, but the drywall took much longer than anticipated. Running errands for food and trying to deliver a cement mixer part to T2, T1 did not finish the house until after 9pm. The electrical generator ran out of gas 30 minutes prior to being finished, so T1 completed the last few pieces of drywall by flashlight and hand scredrivers. The family waited patiently nearby the entire evening. T1 could finally say,
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

The house illuminated with the headlights from the van, and then it was dedicated to Jesus Christ in both English and Spanish prayers, and the gifts were given. The family was, to put it plainly, stunned and overwhelmed. The father was shaking with emotion as he affixed the Casas Por Christo plate to the front of what was now his family's home. Our God is an Awesome God, and we all felt His presence!. Final handshakes and hugs were given, and we went off back across the desert to the light of Juarez, leaving a family with a practical example of God's love and real hope about tomorrow. It was a day that the members of Team One will not soon forget.

Team Two started the day the same way. The roof and chicken wire were finished, and the stucco was started. They were on the second load of stucco when the cement mixer broke down for the final time and the rest of the stucco had to be mixed by hand. They worked until dark getting everything done except for the drywall and dedication. T1 members will go out in the am tomorrow with T2 to help them catch up the time lost from the equipment problems.

Despite the setbacks, T2's spirit and drive to get things done is an great testimony to the character of T2's members. Please continue to pray and send e-mail to all of us!
