Today was the first day of our VBS here in Lircay. This morning we went to the different schools around town and were outside waiting until they got out of school to invite them. They were very friendly and receptive and seemed excited about what we were inviting them to. As you probably can guess, we are a strange sight here in town and used that to our advantage as we were promoting VBS. At the beginning we hung out at a park and played games with the kids to draw them in. Then when we had a crowd we headed over to the plaza and started the VBS. We performed the box skit at the beginning and the topic for that day was creation. We were a bit overwhelmed during the craft because we were expecting around 100 kids and ended up having approximately 227. Luckily no one has gotten too sick so everyone was able to particpate and have a great time today.

It has been a wonderful day here in Lircay! We all got a good nights rest (pardon the poor punctuation...Peruvian keyboards operate much differently!) and we were awoke early by the lovely crowing of the lovely local roosters! Who needs an alarm clock? The weather is cold in the mornings and evenings but very warm during the day. We all have adjusted well to the altitude. We had our first VBS today where over 225 children attended...we were only planning on 100!! The children took advantage of us poor Americanas (primarily Allison Kipfer and me) while playing Pato, Pato, Ganzo (i.e. duck, duck, goose)as they kept picking us to run around the circle at this high altitude!! Obviously, we were at a disadvantage! You all should be proud of your students...they are working hard and mostly not acting like the rude, obnoxious Americanas that Mathew warned them not to be!!More work projects to begin tomorrow as well as VBS. All of the remaining luggage arrived today...shrunk wrapped just like all the rest which is just amazing how small it comes and that nothing was broken! Oh, and as a side note, traveling first class from Dulles to Lima TOTALLY rocks!!! The four of us were totally loving life!!!

Hasta Luego!
