Mission Trip to Las Vegas, Day Seven:
July 11th 2003

By Emily Franks

Wow! Today was really cool, filled with alot of very exciting experiences. The day started out with a cbsm group meeting of prayer and discussion at this great hotel pavilion. And man does God answer his children's prayers (Bruce'll tell bout' that later)! Once we made it to the YWAM base that morning we broke into our morning work duty groups of cleaning bathrooms, sweeping, etc. Very Exciting! Then we all had our cool small group meetings with our designated ywam leaders. After a gr8 lunch we headed off to the Fremont Experience (the old strip), picking up trash, offering free prayer to people walking by, and asking different businesses if they'd like us to clean. My group had a thrilling experience going to the "Lucky Mart", cleaning the bathroom, washing all the in-door windows, and having an interesting conversation with the manager. People are so confused as to why kids come across the U.S. to come and clean some little windows or bathroom with-out any kind of return. And we just tell them, "Well man, we do it because Jesus Christ loves us!" I can't go into further detail, but everyone had some awesome "God" experiences with the prayer time and conversations with Vegas strangers. After a few hours of doing that we went back to the base for dinner and for discussing the day's activities. Later that day we went back to the Fremont area to just stand on the street corner to worship God with the guitar and singing. While we were doing that the local police were sweeping that area for homeless people and drug dealers before the light show and asked us to move across the street because they didn't want us to be involved in any potential drug arrests. They in fact did arrest several homeless people prior to Fremont Street filling up with tourists.

We sang songs of praise on the corner of the Fremont experiment, with the police AND the private security force being very cooperative and telling us to be sure to contact them in case of any trouble with other people. There have been recent changes in Nevada law that effectively increase the protections for the rights of public assembly.

After praising God, we went out 3x3 to talk with people, with mixed result, most of it positive.

We watched (and some of us danced to) the light show and then we headed back to the base for a quick debriefing and then to the hotel to bed. We were all exhausted but happy to have had a great day with God!

IHS,

Emily
