Peru Team Day #5

Wednesday, July 30th, 2014

Our fifth full day in Lima started out much the same as those before, with breakfast and work projects. I helped paint a second coat onto the fences, which was a bit frustrating as they were wet and the paint did not want to stick in most places. We returned to the seminary for lunch and, miracle upon miracles, the sun decided to show its face for the afternoon! It made the weather splendid for VBS. This was my group’s day to plan the activities, which we decided to center around the parable of the workers in the vineyard, who all got the same payment even though some worked all day while others worked only an hour. To get the idea across, we had the children split into groups and complete a challenge. Every group got the same prize, whether they finished first or last. We also acted out the parable for them, and gave them pictures of grapes to paint with grape scented cool-aid. I was amused to see how creative the children were with just one print-out and one color to paint it with. After all this, some of the team members (myself included) performed a drama set to music for them, and then we attempted to teach them one of our dances. Once the VBS kids left, we stayed at the school for a little while to have some hang-out time with the Parales leadership team. In the evening, Shannon, Wyatt, and I led Team Time based on the passage “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened…” We had a good discussion about how to find rest for our souls. Knowing that rest for my soul is MOST important, I know that rest for my body is VERY important as well; so soon I will go to bed and be refreshed and ready for another great day tomorrow!
