Peru Team Day #4

Tuesday, July 29th, 2014

Today was another awesome day here in Lima! In the morning after our delicious breakfast of bread and eggs, we headed over to the school in Perales to continue our work projects. Some people, including me, painted the fence that we had sanded yesterday. Other people cleaned up and sorted trash and recyclables around the school. Mathew even had an encounter with the janitor afterwards in which the surprised man said, “The boss will be happy!” After we finished up the work projects and headed back to the seminary for lunch, we returned to Perales to have another exciting day of VBS with the children of the town. We played and ran around with them for what felt like an eternity and I even got called “Snow White” for obvious reasons, by my “mejor amiga,” Nicol. Today was Molly and Jennifer (Gonza)’s group’s turn to lead the games, skit, and crafts. They chose to tell the story of Jesus walking on water and teaching Peter to always keep his eyes on God and never be afraid. They did a wonderful job keeping the kids interested and even brought some of them up to play parts of the characters in the skit. After all of the children left the VBS for the day, there was an exciting game of fútbol in which the Americans went up against the far superior Peruvians. There was a little battle of Peru and USA chants which was definitely my favorite part. After the soccer game, we had a delicious dinner and then an awesome Team Time led by Jessie, Kenny, and Destiny. They chose a Bible verse that challenged us to love one another as brothers, be content with what we have, and show hospitality to everyone we meet. We closed Team Time with a prayer to the tune of “Brother” by Needtobreathe to remind us that we can be each others strength and shelter through this beautiful and challenging journey. Not only in Peru, but continuing into our daily lives. I’m so glad to be here on my third trip with my best friends helping wonderful Peruvians. And the trip is nowhere near over! See you guys when we get back!
